Oxidation is a natural process in nature when any substance combines with oxygen. Examples include your car rusting in the rain or a fruit becoming too ripe over time. More importantly however, oxidation occurs naturally in our bodies everyday. As you breath in oxygen in the air and use it to create energy the cells in your body oxidize over time.

Unhealthy practices like a bad diet, too much sun exposure, smoking and alcohol can increase the amount of oxidation occurring in your body. Over time oxidation can lead to bad cell damage, then mutation and cancer. Antioxidants help slow down the oxidant process in your body and can help repair damage already done by oxidation to our cells. While oxidation is an important process to our body you must moderate how often it occurs or in the long term oxidization will lead to bad health.

When oxidation occurs in our cells, free radicals are released. Having too many free radicals in your system can lead to decreased mobility in your joints and lowers the tolerance of your immune system. Acai berries have such a high level of antioxidants, higher than that of any other fruit, that they help control oxidation levels.  Antioxidants destroy free radicals and prevent them from replicating in your body. They also replace unhealthy cells from forming over time and help the body repair itself.

While Antioxidants can be found in any fruit or even red wine, the amount is much smaller than that found in Acai berries. Just like your car your body will rust over time if you don’t take care of it. When a free radical damages a cell after the oxidation process it can lead to swelling or inflammation. This leads to cellular degeneration a process which is only made worse by stress or bad health practices. Because Acai is packed full of antioxidants its the best tool out there to prevent oxidation and keep you healthy.
